Katy Clarke

I started my career as a Speech and Language Therapist in Liverpool in 1987 after four years at Central School of Speech and Drama, London (BSc. (Hons.) Speech and Language Therapy) and worked with children and families in local settings to support and develop all areas of their communication. I moved to Gloucestershire in 1991 and continued my work with children in the community and in Language Units within schools. I enjoyed the school environment and following a break from SPLT to bring up my children, I qualified as a teacher with a PGCE in 2007 from the University of Gloucestershire and then as a Specialist Teacher (SPLD Level 5).
From the beginning of my career with learning, I have always been particularly interested in potential and the means to achieve that. I am also a great advocate for individual difference and the impact that can have in the most positive of ways. From 2008 – 2018 I worked as a Specialist Teacher, solely at the University of Gloucestershire, supporting students with a range of challenges including Dyslexia and AS. Since 2018, I have been working with the team at AYA to bring the same quality of support to students in various settings and those working from home.
In all my interactions with students, I listen first to understand what you are facing and what you feel your needs are. Combined with the details from your assessment, we can agree how to move forward with what will help you achieve the best results and also impact your long-term ability to access any future learning independently. I look forward to meeting you.
