Fiona Stubbs

Fiona understands that completing a degree is demanding and can be overwhelming; with study skills support you will be shown how to manage your time, tackle your assignments and learn new skills and strategies to overcome the barriers you may face, enabling you to access your true ability and work through your chosen course.

The first meeting is a getting-to-know-you session because Fiona says ‘listening to the student and understanding exactly what their needs are is vital so that a personalised support plan can be created with the student. This will enable them to access their true ability and work toward achieving their goals.’

As a mature student, Fiona found that additional support through DSA was a great help during her degree and with hard work and determination achieved a ‘First’ in Education Studies. The experience inspired her to complete further qualifications so that she now provides study skills support for students working through Higher Education qualifications.

She has many years’ experience working with students of all ages, successfully supporting and guiding them through courses at undergraduate degree level, MA level and PhD level. Fiona believes that a successful working relationship with the student is based on trust and understanding, combined with the student having confidence in the knowledge and experience of the tutor. Particular areas of experience are working with students with Dyspraxia and Dyslexia, and now has a personal understanding of ADHD.
